I recently made the 4hr trip down to what is perhaps Irelands most prolific mineral locality, the Tynagh Mine in County Galway.
Over 100 minerals species have been recorded from the locality and I was hoping to find at least a few of them!!
Since closing in 1982 much of the site has unfortunately been landscaped and a power station has been built at one end. However there is still lots to see and while it is unlikely that you will find any amazing cabinet sized specimens there is still lots of smaller pieces to collect.
You can check out the photos here on the Causeway Minerals Facebook page.
