A lovely example of deep violet fluorite crystals from the Orange River locality in Namibia.
The crystals display a cubic form and have grown on a banded, chalcedonic quartz matrix.
The crystals display beautiful internal colour zoning as can be seen on the close-up images.
Fluorite specimens from this locality are uncommon and form in pegmatitic veins within granite country rock. The fluorite crystals from here can display a lovely variety of colours, most likely attributable to the presence of different rare earth elements.
The Orange River actually forms part of the Southern Border of Namibia with South Africa with mineral localities being on both sides of the river. However, this specimen was collected on the Namibia side.
